Sugah Shack Road

I think this is in Saint-Basil-Le-Grand, but I'm not sure.

Anything related to that town is scanty.
I shouldn't be mentioning it.

VERSUS

We liked to partea.

I'm only posting this because i got the same haircut.
I'm trying to relive 2007 all over again.
This might help.

So fresh and so clean

Maine.
Nothing like air dryed clothes in February.

Lovely Bones

I'm not sure if I have posted this before when I first got the film back from feb. 2009...
Zay and I went for a long walk in Belgrade and found these on the tracks.

Amanda, autumn 2009

My last year in Photography started out bad. I didn't know how to approach my idea so I tried with 4x5. The day I met Amanda to photograph her, the conditions weren't there. There was no sun to backlight her, and shine in the very vintage lens David had lent me. I took some shots anyways and left them at the developing shop for over a year. Needless to say, I finally shot Polaroids all year and never touched my 4x5 again.
I recently got the film sheets back. Quinn never had the time to scan them at school. So I bought a scanner last week.
I think it was wise not to continue with that idea.

Last Supper

Combining February 2010 with June 2011 makes sense.

Delfleur

I don't need to introduce this little princess anymore.
Delphine has been featured on this blog more than anyone else.

Happy Father's day I guess.
Sorry, I'm obsessed with flowers.

18 months

Quinn and I celebrated our 18 months on Saturday.

We feasted on lamb and quinoa.
Played a game of mini-golf.
Had a coffee at Tim Hortons.
Went out for a pitcher at Miami.

If we had actually travelled to Miami, we could have said we had a perfect day!

Dream On

Every town has a can-pickup-artist.

This is Jean-Pierre Roy, he is mute and deaf, but manages to bumble some curse words when he doesn't win at Poker.
He thinks he is going to win the lottery one day, buy a big house, and have me living in it with him.
Dream on.

Quinn, Autumn 2010

So they say that photography alters time and freezes a moment.
Is there a way to live that moment again and again?
Or is the instant lost in a mist of silver salts?

Zeiss Contact

With my tax returns I bought a few cameras, and i dont remember what else I lost money on.
But I found a nice little Zeiss Ikonta folder that the almighty David Miller helped me restore.
I just got a contact sheet back from the first roll I ran through it.

Some flowers

Some more flowers.

2 things I have to watch out for:
evaluative focusing... I'm not good with gaging distance.
I have to stop photographing cats and flowers.

Tea Leaf Readings

I'm at a crossroad in my life, and neither paths are attractive.
I made 3 tea leaf readings in the hopes of coming up with hilarious predictions.
They turned out to be somber.
The drawings are marked with such intent and commitment that it only makes it sadder that I would want to take control of my fate.
Even if the tea wants to overpower me.
For Laura.

These gave me tendonitis.

Gilles

Gilles works at the shopping center I work at. He does maintenance.
He has a daughter that lives in Kingston, ON and 2 grand-kids.
He enjoys skiing in the winter and he is an avid biker.
He was showing me pictures from a trip him and his biker buddies had made to New Hampshire a couple of years ago, and that photo caught my eye.
I am really not sure why I liked it so much and why it spoke so strongly to me.
So I borrowed it.
I told him to keep shooting film on his next trip (May). It gave quality to his photos that his digital point-and-shoot could not give him. Nor me.
I like other people's travel albums.
My boss is in China.
She's bringing me back a coffee mug, and a shit load of images to look at!

Laprairie, QC

In 2007, when I had the motivation to a) wake up early, b) walk a lot, c) go to the gym and d) to photograph for personal projects not related to school, I woke up early, walked half an hour to the old working class neighborhood near the train track (much like St-Henri) took some slides then went to the gym. This is my favorite photo of the roll.

Of the places I photographed, a vacant lot was built on (yay, 24 hour Petro Canada...) a diner was sold and is now being destroyed, another diner changed owners and is expected to change its name this summer (some family business went wrong) and a small shop was torn down.

La Place (the first diner I mentioned) was owned by Suzanne. She came daily to Maxi to buy the stuff she needed to cook tomorrow's menu. We got more acquainted when she lost her keys two times in a week in the banana rack. Last September, I brought her a piece of cake I had made in exchange of 6 quails. Since she sold the place (ha ha) I haven't seen her.

I'm posting this now because my parents have plans to move to another town.
I'm graduating.
I have to find a place of my own (well a place to rent so I can pretend it's mine).
I must therefore find a full-time job to pay for aforementioned apartment.

I will probably try to keep clicking shutters for a year, get really discouraged and feel like I studied Fine Arts (in vain) out of pretentiousness.

Trust me, if the later doesn't happen, I'll be more then surprised (and happy).

And Release

I just sent in my first grad school application 3 minutes ago.
The deadline was Jan. 16th, at midnight.

Way to procrastinate.

When you can't reach for the stars, reach for the ice cream.
Gucci Mane might have thought the same thing.

Not the Real Thing

You cross the border and hope for new horizons to stretch in front of your eyes, instead you're fenced out of a fallacious Mount Royal...

The Pier.

Cropped and Sharpened.
Surprise table edge, surprise motion blur... One is to wonder why rest the camera on the table.
